Will Snowpiercer Come To Netflix Following Amc Revival

All aboard for one last time. Again! Snowpiercer was initially supposed to return for a fourth and final season in 2023, but its future looked in doubt with the show canceled on TNT. AMC has stepped in to broadcast the new season in the US, but what about internationally, where the show has been a Netflix Original? Its future on the streamer is not yet confirmed.

Based on the 2013 movie by Bong Joon-ho and the 1982 French graphic novel, Snowpiercer follows the resident of a train that perpetually travels around the globe. The series stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Sean Bean, and Alison Wright and began airing on TNT in 2020.

In case you didn’t know, since season 1, Netflix has carried Snowpiercer internationally as a Netflix Original. Better still, Netflix got weekly episodes of the show following their airing on TNT.

Now, the show was originally renewed for a fourth and final season. That fourth season began filming in late March 2022 and wrapped up in August 2022.

In January 2023, we received the bombshell news that season 4 was not going to air on TNT but that Tomorrow Studios, the production company behind the show, was looking to shop it elsewhere.

The cancellation came down to a mixture of reasons. Still, it was primarily because Warner Bros. Discovery had been slowly moving its scripted series off of TNT or even canceling them outright, and it turns out Snowpiercer fell in the latter camp. It also came at a time when Warner Bros. Discovery was canceling numerous projects and pulling others from its streaming platforms. The show was dropped from HBO Max.

Another high-profile TNT show, Obliterated by the creators of Cobra Kai, moved to Netflix and is scheduled to release in 2023.

Tomorrow Studios picked up the underlying rights to the series, but it’s unclear how their efforts to find a new home have gone a couple of months later.

Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, CEO/Partner, and Becky Clements, President/Partner, told Deadline, “We love Snowpiercer and believe season four completes a story with incredible talent that will entertain viewers while exploring issues of climate change and class warfare. We are so passionate about this series that we have acquired the rights to control the franchise,”

AMC Saves Snowpiercer in the US – Sets July 2024 Premiere

That brings us to earlier in 2024 when it was announced AMC, the network behind the likes of The Walking Dead, confirmed that it would be the new home of Snowpiercer’s final season.

All three seasons of the show are now available to stream in the US on AMC with the fourth season due to premiere on July 21st, 2024.

Will Snowpiercer season 4 head to Netflix Internationally?

As it stands, we don’t know.

We understand that Netflix is not obligated to carry the show’s fourth season, given that it’s not aired or been fully completed.

Since the pickup by AMC, we reached out to numerous representatives for the show with one telling us that news is coming down the tracking saying:

“ITV Studios is distributing the series, including the forthcoming fourth season, internationally.

Roll out plans will be announced in each territory as airdates approach.”

A representative for ITV Studios did not respond to a request for comment.

Of course, Netflix makes sense as a home for season 4, given that it holds an international license, but there’s no guarantee that season 4 will hit Netflix in international territories.

For the foreseeable future, Netflix internationally will continue to be the streaming home for Snowpiercer seasons 1-3. We can report that most regions have the rights to the series until March 29th, 2032.
