The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has just released on Netflix and if you fancy diving into the 90’s series ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ before or after, will Netflix be the place to do so? Let’s take a look.
Netflix has invested heavily in the new wave of content coming out of The CW in recent years which includes the Archie comic, Riverdale. Most to all Netflix regions has Riverdale streaming and with its evergrowing popularity, it is probably the reason Netflix decided to give Chilling Adventures of Sabrina a full season order.
Sabrina isn’t new, of course. The comic has been adapted in multiple iterations over the year including the 90’s sitcom we’re talking about here and an animated series too.
Seven seasons of Sabrina The Teenage Witch released between 1996 and 2003.
Netflix US will probably not get Sabrina, The Teenage Witch
Despite being the home of Sabrina, we don’t believe that the series will be coming to Netflix. While it’s true Netflix managed to secure the older Gilmore Girls seasons before rebooting it, it doesn’t look like the same will happen for Sabrina. That may be because despite having the same characters, it’s not essential to watch this series to watch the new reboot.
The same happened with Fuller House where Netflix failed and still haven’t secured the rights to the first series, Full House.
The good news is that there are two streaming options for you. Both Amazon Prime and Hulu are currently streaming the original show. The animated show is available on Starz.
Other Netflix Regions
No other Netflix region around the world has managed to pick up the either of the series ahead of the launch of Chilling Adventures.
Obviously, it would’ve been nice for Netflix to get either of the two series but perhaps the license was too much for Netflix to consider.
Australia and Canada can find the animated series on Amazon Prime.
Are you disappointed Netflix wasn’t able to secure the rights? Let us know in the comments.
