Godzilla: King of the Monsters – Warner Brothers

The 35th film in the long-running franchise, Godzilla: King of the Monsters has been in cinemas across the world for the past few weeks. With a distinct lack of presence at the box office, perhaps many of those interested are waiting for Godzilla to make his way over to Netflix? But will Godzilla: King of the Monsters be coming to Netflix? The chances of that are slim! Here’s why.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is an American kaiju film and the sequel to 2014s Godzilla. Director Gareth Edwards did not return to direct the sequel, leaving the project in 2016 he was replaced with Michael Dougherty. The film saw some cast members return such as Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins. Making their debut in the franchise were actors Charles Dance, Vera Farmiga and Stranger Thing’s very own Millie-Bobby Brown. The film has found high praise with critics in categories such as the musical score, VFX and cinematography. It hasn’t been without its criticisms though with the story, the pacing and the characters themselves being heavily criticized which can be reflected in its performance at the box office.

After Godzilla’s awakening, the ‘Titans’ of Earth have also begun to rise. When a team of eco-terrorists frees the titan Ghidorah, the giant alien creature uses its power to awaken the remaining Titans across the world. With Ghidorah claiming the thrones as King of the monsters for himself, his influence on the Titans threatens to destroy the world. In an epic showdown with Ghidora, humanity’s fate now rests in the hands of Godzilla.

Will Godzilla: King of the Monsters be coming to Netflix US?

If past films by Legendary Entertainment are anything to go by then Godzilla: King of the Monsters won’t be coming to Netflix US.

After doing some digging we have an idea where Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be available to stream. The most recent films produced by Legendary Entertainment such as Jurrasic World: Fallen Kingdom and BlacKkKlansman have been licensed by HBO Now. Other such titles have also followed suit, therefore, we can expect Godzilla to land on HBO Now at the start of 2020.

The film may eventually arrive on Netflix US eventually but not until the license with HBO runs out. This means subscribers could be waiting until 2022 before Godzilla: King of the Monsters arrives on Netflix.

Will Godzilla: King of the Monsters be available in other regions?

Most subscribers in the UK will likely know that Sky receives most if not all of the latest cinematic releases before anyone else in the UK. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will follow suit and Sky will receive the film at the beginning of 2020. It will be available to stream for a limited period of time before a different streaming service picks it up. Godzilla, won’t be arriving on Netflix UK until of least 2021.

In Australia, those with a subscription to Stan may receive the title first, before it arrives on Netflix. Keep an eye open for the start of 2020 as Godzilla will likely be available on either Stan or Netflix.

In Canada, the HBO Now equivalent is the streaming service Crave. If Godzilla isn’t coming to Netflix Canada then it should be landing on Crave first.

The only other region that appears to receive Legendary Entertainment titles on a regular basis is South Korea.
