Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile dropped on Netflix in many regions of the world today but many regions such as the United Kingdom didn’t get the movie. Below, we’ll take a look at what regions did and didn’t get the movie and where you can stream instead.
The chances are if you’re looking at this article you reside in the UK, Ireland, Germany, South America or a myriad of the other Netflix regions that didn’t get the movie.
The big movie release of May 2019 for Netflix is this biopic on the notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy. It’s been hotly anticipated and features a big cast. It arrived on Netflix in selected regions on May 3rd, 2019 at roughly 12 AM PST.
Why isn’t Extremely Wicked, Shocking Evil and Vile everywhere?
Netflix Originals on Netflix are ridiculously complicated. There are four types of Netflix Original and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile sits firmly in the acquisition level which we’ve dubbed as “Internationally Exclusive Originals”.
In the case of this movie, it premiered as an independent movie at the Sundance Film Festival. What happens is it premieres to industry executives and then after that, it’s then sold to the highest bidder for distribution rights.
Because of the star power and subject matter, Extremely Wicked dominated the headlines and led to heated competition surrounding its rights.
Naturally, Netflix has always had hits with its content lineup in the true-crime genre and with the release of its docuseries in January. Sadly, it couldn’t secure the rights everywhere.
It spent $9 million for the rights in the United States and will be getting a limited cinema release too.

How to watch Extremely Wicked, Shocking Evil and Vile in the United Kingdom
Sky managed to secure the rights to the movie in the United Kingdom and is simulcasting (much like Netflix is) with a theatrical release and also if you’re a Sky Cinema customer you’ll be able to watch. If you’re looking to stream in the UK, NowTV is currently your only option.
Although we don’t know how long Sky picked up the rights for, it could eventually come to Netflix in the UK but we’ve got no timeline on this right now.
There you have it, we hope that clears up why the movie distribution is a little complicated.
