The long-running TV Land series Younger is deep into its sixth season. Being one of the most popular, wholesome and funny comedy-dramas available many would have expected Netflix to have picked up the series by now. Sadly, this isn’t the case. But why aren’t seasons 1 to 6 of Younger on Netflix? Let’s find out.
Younger is an American comedy-drama created by Darren Star and is based upon the novel of the same name by author Pamela Redmond Satran. The series has arguably become the flagship show of TV Land since its debut in 2015.
After divorcing her gambling-addicted husband, 40-year-old mother Liza Miller is left in a financial hole. With no savings and losing the house, Liza tries to figure out a way to support herself and her daughter, Caitlin, who is studying abroad in India. Deciding to follow her dream of going into publishing, Liza soon discovers that to start from the bottom is a struggle for a woman of her age. When Liza is mistaken for being in her 20s, Maggie, Liza’s best friend, comes up with the idea to give Liza a makeover so she can pass her off as a 26-year-old. The plan works and she ultimately becomes the assistant to Diana Trout at Empirical Press. Liza must now keep up the facade to her new friends and co-workers if she is to make it in the publishing world.
Why are Seasons 1 to 6 of ‘Younger’ not on Netflix US?
The reason why seasons 1 to 6 of Younger isn’t streaming on Netflix is largely to do with Viacom.
Viacom has infamously had a poor relationship with Netflix. It was once fruitful, with Netflix gaining many titles from the Nickelodeon and Comedy Central Library but this came to an end a few years ago. The only shows Netflix has of Viacom’s are a select few series from MTV.
What does have to with TV Land? The small television network belongs to Viacom and has a comparable relationship to that of The CW and CBS or Freeform and ABC.
If you wish to stream the series you’ll need a subscription to Hulu. Unfortunately, Hulu doesn’t air the latest episodes the next day, so you’ll have to wait until the finale airs on TV Land. Typically the next season lands a couple of months after the finale has aired, so expect season 6 to arrive in October.
Not to mention the series has already been confirmed to be returning for the seventh season in 2020.
Are other regions streaming seasons 1 to 6 of Younger on Netflix?
Younger is not available to stream on Netflix in any region.
In the United Kingdom, Younger isn’t available to watch until the Fall. It was only recently announced that Comedy Central UK picked up the series to be distributed through their channel later this year (2019). The series previously aired on the Sony Channel but the series was dropped after two seasons when the channel was rebranded as the Sony Crime Channel.
Once the series is available on Comedy Central episodes will be available to stream to Sky customers on the Sky Go app and Now TV subscribers.
