Peaky Blinders Season Updated Release

Peaky Blinders season 5 – Picture: BBC/Netflix

Peaky Blinders is soon coming to an end on BBC in the United Kingdom but the good news is that season 5 is also about to stream on Netflix shortly. The crime drama will be streaming on Netflix in most regions from October 2019 and here’s full rundown of when Peaky Blinders season 5 will be on Netflix.

As with most BBC shows, the release schedule for the 1920s drama is far from consistent. We’ve had periods where a new season releases yearly and in others on a two-year wait. The wait between seasons 4 and 5 was the latter with it being a whole two years since season 4 released.

The show remains a BBC favorite and unlike most of the BBC library in the US, the show will continue streaming on Neflix over the next few years as we’ll go over in a second.

The show starring Cillian Murphy is about a gang in the early 20th century and their rise to power. Thanks to sneak peek from the BBC promoting their boxset on their iPlayer we managed to get a glimpse of what we can expect from season 5.

The series aired on the BBC from August 25th, 2019 and is currently scheduled to finish airing on the BBC on September 22nd.

Before we move into the Netflix release schedule, we do just want to quickly cover the contract situation in the United States. The series was held by The Weinstein Company and after months of litigation, Netflix came out the other end retaining the distribution rights to the show in the US. In August last year, Netflix confirmed that Peaky Blinders would “remain on the service, uninterrupted.”

Further to this, on August 9th, 2019 the “See What’s Next” account on Twitter (ran by Netflix) tweeted a teaser for the upcoming season.

When will Peaky Blinders season 5be on Netflix in the United States and other regions?

You can expect season 5 of Peaky Blinders to be on Netflix pretty much as soon as season 5 wraps up on TV. That means we’ll likely have season 5 arriving on Netflix in October 2019.

That’s since been confirmed by Netflix to be the case. The confirmed release date for season 5 of Peaky Blinders on Netflix US is October 4th, 2019.

Thanks to the October 2019 release schedule for Netflix Canada, we also know that they’re in receipt of the movie in October too.

Australians will likely have an incredibly long wait with season 4 only getting added in March 2019. That means you could expect a wait up to 2021.

When will Peaky Blinders season 5 be on Netflix UK?

In the United Kingdom, where the series airs first, you will eventually be able to watch on Netflix too.

The bad news is, however, that Netflix UK doesn’t typically pick up new seasons until roughly a year after they finish. That means that we don’t expect season 5 of Peaky Blinders to be on Netflix UK until at least 2020.

For example, season 4 released on the BBC between November 2017 and December 2017 but didn’t come to Netflix until December 2018.

Given the current timetable (not yet finalized) we’re not expecting the series to arrive on Netflix UK until at least September 2020.

The good news is that BBC iPlayer will hold the series for longer with it likely being on its streaming service up until Netflix gets hold of it.

What’s the future of the show beyond season 5? Looking good. The creators have confirmed they’ve got enough ideas to sustain them at least through seasons 6 and have even said they will probably do a season 7. Also in September 2019, we’ve heard news of a possible movie and multiple spin-offs in the works too.
