One Strange Rock season 1 just touched down on Netflix in many more regions across the world and if you’re looking for season 2, we’ve got some good and some potentially bad news. Here’s when and if season 2 of One Strange Rock will be coming to Netflix.
The National Geographic series features the voice of Will Smith who presents the series that follows eight astronauts who share their perspectives on Earth.
First of all, it’s important to note that this is a licensed show to Netflix and not a Netflix Original. That means the future of the show is not down to Netflix although obviously licensing to Netflix can help fund such efforts.
The good news is that National Geographic did renew the series for a second season. In the article, it stated that filming would not start until February adding “a premiere date hasn’t been set”
OK, now let’s take a look at season 2 and when it might be on Netflix. Although the series hasn’t got a release date, we’re going to assume it arrives in late 2019 as that’s the most realistic at this point.
Netflix in the US and Canada got the first season added on February 1st, 2019. The UK got it added on April 3rd, 2019.
Its release onto Netflix came roughly 9 months after its premiere date which means we’d likely see season 2 added in either 2020 or 2021.
One Strange Rock Season 2 May Not Come to Netflix
Currently, there is a chance that National Geographic may choose to not put season 2 onto Netflix. In recent years, National Geographic has scaled back its library on Netflix and that’s not surprising.
The network is owned by Fox and in recent years, that now means it’s owned by Disney. Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ is supposedly going to be the home to most National Geographic content which could not only mean season 2 doesn’t come to Netflix but the first season also leaves.
That’s all we have for now but we’ll have more information as we get closer to the release date of One Strange Rock.
