“When I see an Elephant fly,” Dumbo is soon to be released in cinemas and already fans are eager to learn if and when Dumbo will be coming to Netflix. Allow us to help you with that. Let’s find out if Dumbo will be coming to Netflix in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Dumbo is a Disney fantasy-adventure film based on the 1941 animated classic of the same name. The film has been given the ‘live action’ treatment as Disney continue to retell their classic tales through modern reimaginings. Excluding short films, Dumbo is the 6th Disney title that Tim Burton has been involved in, specifically taking the directors seat once again. The latest iteration of the beloved Elephant could see one of the biggest rewrites of all the Disney stories.
In this modern retelling of 1941 classic, a struggling circus owner enlists the help of Holt Farrier and his family to take care of Dumbo the baby elephant. When the Farrier children discover that Dumbo can fly, it isn’t long before word gets out of the existence of a flying elephant. Soon scheming entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere comes calling to make Dumbo a star.
Will Dumbo be coming to Netflix US?
As of January 1st, 2019 any Disney cinematic releases will not be coming to Netflix in the United States.
This is because of the contract between Netflix and Disney is now officially over. There are a few Disney movies still scheduled to arrive on Netflix throughout 2019, however.
The contract that was previously in place allowed brand new movies released by Disney to eventually arrive on Netflix for a limited period of time. This deal began in September of 2016 and ended on the 31st December 2018. Therefore any titles released in 2019 onwards will not be coming to Netflix with the first title not coming to Netflix being Captain Marvel.
Dumbo will eventually arrive on Disney’s own streaming service called Disney+, which is set for release in late 2019 or early 2020.
Will other Netflix regions be streaming Dumbo?
Canada is thought to continue to receive the cinematic releases from Disney as their contract is still ongoing. Netflix Canada can expect to receive Dumbo in September or October of this year.
In the United Kingdom Dumbo will first air on Now TV for a limited period of time. Typically new Disney releases spend 18 months on Now TV before it will arrive on Netflix. So don’t expect Dumbo anytime soon, because you’ll be waiting until of least 2021.
In both of these instances, it assumes that Netflix is still getting Disney movies and won’t be going to Disney+ straight away.
