The fourth Despicable Me 4 movie has just hit theaters in the United States and worldwide, hoping to continue the franchise’s dominance at the box office.
The fourth movie is released just in time for the July 4th celebrations currently underway throughout the US, and early signs point to a successful run at the box office. This should be no surprise, given that the franchise has grossed over $4.7 billion at the box office since the first movie was released in 2010.
Despicable Me 4 sees the return of Steve Carrell in the role of Gru and the returning voices of Kristen Wiig, Joey King, and Will Ferrell. The plot revolves around Gru Jr., who helps his Dad fight a new nemesis, Maxime Le Mal, and his femme fatale girlfriend, Valentina.
When will Despicable Me 4 be on Netflix in the United States?
If you want to rewatch Despicable Me 4 or don’t fancy a trip to the theaters, you’ll be pleased to know that the fourth entry will soon be coming to Netflix in the US.
The movie falls under Netflix’s Universal Animation first-window deal. This deal has been in place for years now, and while Netflix used to have the entire first-window deal, it was revised slightly in 2021, in which Netflix shares the 18-month pay-one window with Peacock (Universal’s streaming service).
The revised deal has seen the likes of Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Super Mario Bros. Movie come to Netflix, with more DreamWorks and Illumination titles coming down the line.
So when will Despicable Me 4 be on Netflix US? Let’s apply the timetable as seen above:
- Despicable Me 4 debuts in theaters on July 3rd, 2024
- The movie should arrive on Peacock for the first stint on October 31st, 2024
- The movie will depart Peacock after four months for Netflix in February 2025.
- It’ll then reside on Netflix throughout the rest of the year, departing for Peacock again sometime in December 2025.
