The show is based on the 13 children books written by Lemony Snicket, about three orphan kids who are thrown into a world of misfortune after their parents supposedly die in a fire that destroyed their family mansion. They are sent to live with their distant relative Count Olaf who is a villainous crook and failed actor who will try anything to get his hands on the large Baudelaire fortune, that the eldest sibling Violet will inherit when she becomes 18. The count commits murder, arson, and many other devilish crimes to get what he wants.

Latest Trailer

The debut season was based on the first 4 novels by Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window and The Miserable Mill.

It has been confirmed that the second series will not just cover the next four books; The Austere Academy, The Erastz Elevator, The Vile Village And The Hostile Hospital. But will also feature an extra two episodes that will include the ninth novelThe Carnivorous Carnival.

Below we are going to attempt to briefly cover what each of the books will bring to the series, so you have an idea of what to expect. Of course, we are going to try the best we can to avoid any spoilers that could potentially ruin any surprises in store.

The Austere Academy

On the last episode of season one, we see the children being delivered to ‘Prufrock Preparatory School’ by Mr. Poe. They meet the Vice Principal who ensures they will be safe from any villainy in the school. They try and make themselves as comfortable as possible, but the overhanging fear of the Count still looms over them.

The Ersatz Elevator

In the next book ‘The Ersatz Elevator’, the children are sent to live with the ‘Squalors’, a good friend of their mother, in a penthouse apartment. Jerome tries his best to care about them, but his wife clearly only cares about what’s “in” and what’s “out”.

The Vile Village

The seventh novel by Lemony Snicket (The Vile Village) will involve the siblings being sent by Mr. Poe to an entire town, meaning that every member of the town is their legal guardian. Surely Count Olaf can’t fool the whole town and make off with at least one of the children?

The Hostile Hospital

The Hostile Hospital takes off from where the last, finished. The Baudelaire’s come across a group called the Volunteers Fighting Disease who try and help sick patients in the Heimlich Hospital. The children are eager for answers surrounding the mysteries they are involved in, and go hunting for them. But, once again, there are no surprises that Count Olaf will try and stop them.

The Carnivorous Carnival

The final novel that will play a part in this series will be The Carnivorous Carnival. This section of the story will follow our young protagonists as they go undercover at a fairground. And of course, it doesn’t take long for a somewhat badly disguised Olaf to come snooping around looking for the mysterious snicket files.

The series will be coming to your screens on the 30th of March. Let us know in the comments below what you’re most looking forward to from this season.
