The massively popular Netflix Original “Violet Evergarden” returns on October 4th for a one-off special episode. The question is what is it and what do we know about it?
The show which is now massively popular amongst the anime audience of Netflix originally debuted in Japan Television Networks back in January and soon after was released on Netflix in regions such as Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom, it wasn’t till April 5th the show released in the USA. The show is based upon light the novel of the same name by Author Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase which ran from December 25th, 2015 till March 23rd, 2018.
The plot is centered around Violet Evergarden, a former soldier she is searching for her place in society and her life’s purpose after leaving the Military. It was her former commander’s final words of ‘I love you’, that she decided to become an Auto memory doll for the CH Postal Company to learn what those words mean. Auto Memory Doll’s work as ghostwriters for those unable to write or struggle to express their emotions in their letters.
What is the Extra Episode?
The extra episode is similar to that of an OVA and takes place over the course of several months between episodes 4 and 5 of the series. The plot of the episode is centered around a letter request from an Opera House Songstress. The episode itself has technically already been released as it is available to watch on the Blu-Ray and DVD editions of the series.
What about the Movie release and a Second Season?
The film is set for release in January 2020 and will be animated again by the Kyoto Animation studio, at this time we know the film will be released worldwide but it is unclear if Netflix will be picking up the exclusive rights to stream the Movie upon release. The announcement trailer is below.
As for season two, this is very unlikely as Violet’s story will look to be concluded through the movie. Not to mention from the source material itself it wouldn’t have much left to go off to warrant a second season unless they throw in a lot of filler but for now fans should be happy with the eventual release of the movie.
