Vampires have had a dominant place in our pop culture ever since Bram Stoker’s Dracula was published. With countless novels, comics, movies, and tv shows, you’ll never run out of content to binge on. Netflix has another Original to add to that list with the upcoming series V-Wars. Based on the popular graphic novel series, V-Wars has been a long time coming. Here’s everything we know so far on V-Wars including the plot, cast, trailer, and release date.
V-Wars is a Netflix Original vampire-drama series based on the graphic novels of the same name by author Jonathan Maberry. William Laurin and Glenn Davis are the brains behind the series adaptation, serving as two out of four writers for the Original. Author, Jonathan Maberry has been given a credit as a writer for V-Wars but only for pre-development, aside from this, it would suggest that the Maberry had no further involvement with the creation of V-Wars.
Three directors will serve throughout the series, those being, Brad Turner, T.J. Scott and The Vampire Diaries fan-favorite Ian Somerhalder. Along with 15 other producers, Somerhalder will also serve as an executive producer for the series.
What is the plot of V-Wars?
The following synopsis has been given for V-Wars:
After a mysterious disease begins transforming people into vampires, based on the folklore of each victim’s heritage, Dr. Luther Swann is pitted against his best friend, now a powerful vampire leader. The show chronicles the outbreak of the first Vampire War, from the savage murders committed by the newly affected to full-out battles with vampire terrorist cells, and the peace-mongering factions in between.

Fans of The Vampire Diaries will recognize Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore. Ironically the actor is in another vampire series but this time won’t be portraying a vampire. Instead, Somerhalder will be portraying the human doctor Luther Swann who is at the very forefront of the vampire war.
Eagle-eyed fans of Smallville will also recognize Somerhalder from Smallville as Adam Knight. Adrian Holmes and Laura Vandervoort also starred in the series as Griff and Kara Kent respectively.
So V-Wars is based on a graphic novel?
That’s right! V-Wars began as an anthology series detailing the accounts of the Vampire Wars from the perspective of different individuals. Four graphic novels were released between 2012 and 2016.
While the series hasn’t been confirmed to be an anthology series, we do know that the focus of the show will be on the story of Dr. Luther Swann. 12 Issues of the graphic novel were released between 2014 and 2019.
We’re unsure how much of the graphic novel will be covered in the first season. Going by the cast information there are characters that play key roles in the graphic novel that won’t be in the series. Characters such as Yuki Nitobe and Lashonda Forbes won’t be making an appearance in season 1.

Where is production up to?
Filming concluded on V-Wars in October when the series went into post-production on October 2nd.
Where did filming take place?
Filming was split between Toronto and Galt in Ontario, Canada.

How many episodes will season 1 debut?
It has already been confirmed that the first season will arrive with 10 episodes. Netflix typically orders their originals for 10 episodes.
What are the episodes run times?
Each episode will have a run time of around 50 to 60 minutes.
What is the parental rating of V-Wars?
While a parental rating hasn’t been confirmed, we can speculate on what it will be.
We expect V-Wars to receive an R or TV-MA rating. This is because of the violence and potential sexual and drug references that may be seen throughout.

For anyone confused why you’ll not be able to stream V-Wars from midnight in your region, this is because Netflix releases all of their titles at PST (Pacific Standard Time). So for fans in New Zealand that are 20 hours ahead of the PST, you don’t receive titles until late in the evening.
