Tyler Perry is back with another series on Netflix. This time, he’s teamed up with Niya Palmer (The Game) for a new political dramedy that’ll appeal to fans of The Politician, Veep, Scandal, The Good Fight, Being Mary Jane, or even The Morning Show. Netflix has just confirmed it’ll be rolling out the 16-episode first season in two parts – here’s what you need to know.

First unveiled last year, the new series is just the latest project from Tyler Perry filmed at his Atlanta-based studios, adding to his growing collection of series and movies on the streamer. In this entry, the story centers on Lieutenant Governor candidate Antoinette Dunkerson, who runs a successful campaign and now must figure out how to thrive under a sexist and condescending governor while keeping her family in line, now that they’re all in the public eye. Netflix first released a first look for the new series earlier this year.

Terri J. Vaughn (The Steve Harvey Show, All of Us) leads the cast playing the role of Antoinette Dunkerson with other actors involved in the new series including Jade Novah (The Sound of Music Live!) as Shamika Latavia Latoya Farrah Dunkerson, Drew Olivia Tillman (This Is Us, Roxanne Roxanne). as Lola Dunkerson, Tré Boyd (Swagger, The Ms. Pat Show) as Titus Dunkerson, Dyon Brooks (The Game, Greenleaf) as Basil Henderson, Robert Craighead as Governor Irwin Harper (Ruthless, Love and Monsters), Kevin Thoms (Sym-Bionic Titan, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Jed Bonds, and Jo Marie Payton (Family Matters, The Proud Family) as Cleo Dunkerson.

The split release follows the format that worked well for Beauty in Black, which saw its first eight episodes drop in October 2024, with the subsequent eight landing several months later on March 6, 2025. She The People will also be eight episodes per part, with the release schedule set as follows:

  • Part 1 Netflix Release Date: Thursday, May 22, 2025
  • Part 2 Netflix Release Date: Thursday, August 14, 2025

A trailer for the new show is coming soon, and we’ll update this article once it becomes available.

Now, let’s dig into some more of those first looks that have just dropped ahead of part 1 dropping next month:
