If you’re looking for part 4 of Trollhunters, then you may be disappointed, as Netflix has confirmed that it won’t be returning for a fourth part. We do have good news, however, as the universe will be continued with two future series, as we’ll explain below.
Of all the Dreamworks TV series that have come to Netflix, Trollhunters stands out as one of the best-produced and most successful of the series. It’s garnered much love since the first part, consisting of 26 episodes, landed in December 2016.
Part 2 dropped to 13 episodes, which landed last December, and we got the third installment on May 25th.
As you may know, Trollhunters is a production with Guillermo del Toro behind the project. Originally, Trollhunters was seemingly a solo project, but since the show has been a bit more successful, Del Toro announced that it was part of a wider universe.
Trollhunters is one part of three TV shows that will all be released exclusively on Netflix. The universe is collectively called Tales of Arcadia.
What’s the next installment in the Trollhunter universe?
The next series will be called ‘3 Below’. The synopsis for the next series is as follows:
“Two royal aliens and their bodyguard escape from their home planet and crash-land on Earth, in the city of Arcadia. There, the aliens adjust to human culture and try to fix their spaceship to return and take back their home planet, which an evil dictator is taking over.”
There’s no official release date for 3 Below just yet, but given the timelines of Trollhunters, we’re expecting to hear more during 2018 and perhaps a release date in late 2018 or early 2019.
What about the third installment?
The third installment of Tales of Arcadia is currently known as Wizards. It will act as the conclusion of the trilogy, and the only synopsis announced so far is as follows:
“The heroes of Arcadia join forces in an apocalyptic war for the control of magic that will decide the fate of the entire galaxy.”
There’s no release date for Wizards just yet. We expect it to come out after 3 Below has fully aired, which may not be for a few years.
So it’s bittersweet news. One, Trollhunters as a standalone is now over and concluded, but there’s plenty more in the universe to discover.
