Just as season 27 of Top Gear is coming to an end on the BBC, season 26 has been given its Netflix UK release date of July 24th, 2019.
Despite many regions of Netflix no longer carrying Top Gear, in the UK (where the show is made and first aired) it still arrives on a frequent schedule. Season 26 of the show ran between February to March 2019.
This season is notable in the fact it’s Matt LeBlanc’s final season on the show. Citing personal reasons, he was replaced (as was Rory Reid) from season 27 onwards.
The motoring show continues its trend of car reviews, interviews and big segments in season 26. The team head to Norway this season as well as Spain and Wales.
Some of the notable interviews this season include James Marsden, Professor Green, Gregory Porter, Matt Baker, and Stephen Mangan.
Netflix UK still retains most of the Top Gear back catalog including every season from series 14. It also has access to season 7, 9, 10 and 12. Obviously, the show has been through a few tough years with all three of the main stars moving to Amazon for The Grand Tour.
Extra Gear (season 4) will also be making its way onto Netflix UK on July 24th, 2019 too. This is the bonus show that the BBC produces that gives a behind the scenes look at the show. For season 4, both Chris Harris and Rory Reid took part again.
Netflix France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland are also due to get season 26 in the future.
Will Top Gear be coming back to the United States?
Top Gear notably left Netflix in the US in 2018 with losing many BBC shows throughout the year and into 2019. It’s unlikely to return at this point but as you know, Netflix has been expanding its selection of motoring shows recently.
The show now resides in the US on MotorTrend with all past and future seasons ending up there. Sadly, this means you’ll need an additional application and subscription but if you need your Top Gear fix, that’s how you’ll have to do it.
