The Smurfs season 2 will finally be available on Netflix starting in late June 2024. At the Annecy Film Festival, Peyo Company also confirmed they’re working on a fourth in addition to the already announced third season, both of which will eventually head to Netflix.
Rewind to April 2021, and we got word that Netflix would be working with Peyo Company to bring the classic Smurfs series and a new 3D animated Smurfs series to the streamer.
First airing on Nickelodeon in the United States (and other local distributors elsewhere), Netflix got the first season of The Smurfs worldwide throughout 2023, with the US getting all 52 episodes on May 1st. While some other regions had to wait a bit longer, every region of Netflix eventually began streaming the new season.
A year after that first season dropped, Netflix is finally due to get season 2, which aired on Nickelodeon from July 18th, 2022. The new season, just like season 1, will consist of 52 episodes and is due to arrive on Netflix in the US on June 30th. Netflix confirmed the availability of season 2 in the June 2024 preview list.
Other regions’ release dates for The Smurfs season 2 may vary.
The good news doesn’t stop there – there will be a third and fourth season, as Peyo Company confirmed at the Annecy Film Festival!
Season 3 of the show has been known to be coming down the track for a while now. It is set to consist of another 52 episodes confirmed to air on Nickelodeon in Summer 2024 and, based on previous schedules, should come to Netflix in the next couple of years.
A fourth season was also confirmed to be in “pre-development.”
A representative for Peyo Company confirmed to What’s on Netflix that seasons 3 and 4 will come to Netflix eventually but could not specify exactly when.
Away from Netflix, Peyo Company also revealed that it’s teaming up with Paramount Pictures for a feature film based on The Smurfs due to hit theaters in February 2025. The company also announced news away from The Smurfs, confirming it would be reviving other characters from Johan & Peewit and Benny Breakiron comic books using modern animation. To that end, they revealed two projects: The Tales of Johan & Peewit and Benny Breakiron.
Netflix will showcase its library of upcoming animated titles in the coming days at the Annecy Film Festival. Today, we got a new look at Arcane season 2, with other titles to be showcased in the coming days, including Spellbound, That Christmas, The Twits, Twilight of the Gods, and the upcoming Wallace & Gromit film.
