The Last Kingdom is not only happening but the series is now a full-fledged Netflix Original with Netflix taking over the production from BBC America. Season 3 is expected to arrive on Netflix around the world later this year.
Netflix in the US has held The Last Kingdom as an Original for the past few years getting regular drops. Although it’s classed as a Netflix Original, it has shared its production with the BBC. This isn’t especially uncommon but does mean that the shows fate often relies on two parties.
Set in the era of Saxons and Norse mythology, this gripping series tells the story of Uhtred, a warrior destined to retake his birthright at the throne.
Season 3 was confirmed for the shows lead star, Alexander Dreymon who stated that season 3 will be the best season yet. 10 episodes have been confirmed for season 3.

What about other regions?
Every region will be getting season 3 and if you’re in the United Kingdom, this news also bought the arrival of season 2 too.
Why did BBC America drop The Last Kingdom?
Details aren’t available as to the exact reason why Netflix took over the full production. In the past, Netflix has taken over co-productions when either development or funds from the other partner are no longer available. In the case of The Last Kingdom, it’s an expensive production and with Netflix missing its own Game of Thrones it’s likely going to continue developing shows until it finds it.
You can keep up to date with The Last Kingdom’s release date on our when will the series be on Netflix post but at the moment, we’re expecting between October and December 2018.
