The Innocents season 2 has been a mystery up until now as we learn that the series has in likelihood been canceled and therefore will not be returning for a second season. Here’s what we know so far.
The stylish and unique first season released on Netflix in the summer of 2018 to quite a big fanfare. The British series consisted of eight episodes but most importantly, ended with a huge cliff-hanger as we’ll get into below.
The series is about a young shapeshifter and her discovery of who she is. The series features Sorcha Groundsell, Percell Ascott, Guy Pearce, and Laura Birn.
We’ll soon be fast approaching six months from when The Innocents was released on Netflix and we’re still without official word from anyone regarding the show’s future.
Is there scope for a season 2?
Spoilers follow
Absolutely. The first season ended on a huge cliffhanger with Harry being trapped in the car because June had shapeshifted twice leaving his brain in limbo.
Has The Innocents been canceled?
Official renewal status: Likely canceled (Last updated: March 2019)
As we’ve stated in our original article on season 2 of The Innocents, Netflix has yet to give an official news statement regarding the second season and that remains the case going into 2019.
It’s been reported, however, that the show has been reportedly been canceled.
In an article by TVline, they mentioned The Innocents and specifically said that “sources confirm for me that the series will not see Season 2.”
Netflix does typically renew or cancel its shows several months after it airs but that’s not been the case with The Innocents.
The shows Twitter account remained active up until around a month after the show had aired with the last activity on the account being registered on September 18th. This is usually a telltale sign on a show’s future as Netflix will continue pushing updates through its channels on the shows up until they’re canceled.
On the flipside, some of the cast and crew of the show have remained active on Twitter.
Percelle Ascott, who plays Harry on the show has been involved in several other projects since including a rap Youtube series that the creator wants to bring to Netflix.
Percelle’s last mention or interaction with anything regarding The Innocents was back on December 30th liking a fan’s tweet although he hasn’t tweeted about the show since August 29th.
We reached out to New Pictures who serve as the production company for the show for any updates but have yet to hear any response.
