The Get Down is one of the biggest Netflix Original releases of the year and has a massive soundtrack that’s comprised of music produced especially for the show and a collective mix of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s disco, pop and latino music.
Given the series itself is technically a musically driven show, its soundtrack is rooted deep into the foundations of the show. Each episode holds a different collection of hits depending on who we’re with. Suffice to say, Baz Luhrmann, the director and showrunner, has knocked it out of the page with this soundtrack and kept me very busy digging out all of the songs played throughout the six and a half hour long first part of season 1.
As we mentioned above, an exclusive album featuring mainly original songs for the show has been released exclusively on Apple Music, but that does not include the tens of fantastic songs from other artists which other news outlets don’t seem to be covering.
We’ve gone ahead and broke the soundtrack down episode by episode for you and combined all the songs we have in a Spotify playlist for your enjoyment.
Update: Part 2 has released with a boat load of new music! Here’s our soundtrack list for part 2 of The Get Down.
