SPOILER ALERT: This article contains details from Series 1 and 2 of The Fall. Now get with it and catch up!
After an agonizingly long wait, Netflix’s haunting serial killer series The Fall is finally heading back to our screens. It’s not a whodunit, it’s more of a willhegetawaywithit. We know you did it, Paul, you handsome serial killer you. The series is a constant game of cat and mouse. The killer’s arrogant, unrepentant tease. You’re constantly on the edge of your seat wondering “Is this going to be the moment when they finally get him?”
Let’s rewind. Icy Metropolitan Police Superintendent Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) is a senior investigating officer tasked with reviewing investigations. She’s called in to take control of an investigation and search for a serial killer. She is soon plunged into the world of Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) a married bereavement counselor with a special affection for stalking, breaking and entering, murder, and dolls. Holy cow, the dolls. He hates everyone and everything, including himself. The beauty of this show is even though you know who the killer is, you’re still watching with baited breath. Even when he is caught, you still aren’t satisfied because we know there is something more. So now the question is:
What’s Next?
The fact that Stella rushes to the side of Spector when he is SPOILER ALERT! Seriously. You gotta keep up. shot as opposed to the side of the other guy that she has been sleeping with (also shot) is a pretty big indicator this relationship runs deep. Creepy, but deep.
So… he’s caught, in cuffs, and shot. Where do we go from here?
There will be an emotionally charged crusade to see that he is brought to justice-beginning with a bloody battle to save his life. But there must be one more element yet to be played out. A trick up his sleeve hinted at by Jamie Dornan:
“There’s quite remarkable turns in the third season that I really genuinely think people won’t see coming that are hugely exciting.”
Is there still a death waiting to play out? Does he orchestrate it from prison or is it something he already had in the works we haven’t seen yet? That babysitter who loves him and is willing to do just about anything for him may play into the continuation of his plan. This is the last season Dornan will be playing this role, so whatever it is, it’s going to be final. And I can’t wait to see what it is.
The Fall Season 3 arrives on Netflix US on October 28th, 2016.
