Tales of the Shire, one of the year’s most anticipated cozy video games of 2024, will soon arrive on Netflix alongside a bunch of new mobile games on Android and iOS in the second half of 2024.
Tales of the Shire is a new video game from Wētā Workshop that will allow Lord of the Rings fans to live out their coziest fantasy in the Shire’s beautiful rolling hills, forests, and meadows. The farming simulator will see you play as a Hobbit as you look to carve out your idyllic slice of heaven in the corner of the Shire. You’ll trade with villagers, go fishing, grow vegetables, cook delicious foods, and grow your community to achieve a village status in Bywater.
Kelly Tyson, Head of Product at Wētā Workshop, had the following to say when the game was first announced;
“We’re excited to provide players with the opportunity to fulfil their fantasy of living their own humble Hobbit life in the Shire. Tales of the Shire brings a cosy new dimension to the way fans can experience Middle-earth, with plenty of wholesome, Hobbit-centric gameplay to win-over newcomers to the genre.”

Netflix will exclusively carry the mobile versions of the game, although the game is due to be released on a slew of other platforms, albeit they won’t be free as part of your Netflix subscription.
To date, this is the first Lord of the Rings project to land on Netflix. Amazon Prime Video is notably behind a big-budget TV series, Rings of Power, and Warner Bros. Pictures is planning a new movie with Peter Jackson for release in 2026 and has an anime movie due for release in 2024 called The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
The game is also planned to be released on Steam, the Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation 5, and Xbox consoles.

When is Tales of the Shire coming to Netflix?
An exact release date has yet to be announced; however, Netflix has confirmed that the Tales of the Shire, alongside over two dozen others, will be released in the coming months and years. So far, in 2024, Netflix has released twelve mobile video games with the total count almost hitting 100 titles in total.
