From the incredible producers who brought subscribers F1: Drive to Survive, Netflix is entering the world of sports racing this time. With unprecedented access to jockeys and horse owners, the six-part series will take subscribers on a journey across the race season, following incredible races like the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown. Race for the Crown arrives in April 2025.
Race for the Crown is an upcoming sports documentaries series from Box to Box Films, the producers of Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Sprint. James Gay-Rees, Paul Martin, Hillary Olsen, Warren Smith, and Ian Sambor are the executive producers representing Box to Box. Tim Stampher and Jordan Bogdonavage are the co-executive producers.
The series formerly had the working title Ride to Survive, which we previously reported on in July 2024.
When is Race for the Crown coming to Netflix?
Netflix has confirmed that Race for the Crown will be released on the streaming service on April 22nd, 2025.
What is Race for the Crown?
The series will be centered on the horse jockeys and horse owners of America. With unprecedented access to world of horse racing, the series will subscribers on a journey through the thoroughbred racing season as the camera crew chronicles the events that unfold at The Kentucky Derby, Run for the Roses, and even the Breeder’s Cup and The Triple Crown.

Which jockeys will feature in Race for the Crown?
Netflix has confirmed several of the jockeys set to appear in Race for the Crown:
- Brian Hernandez Jr., an American jockey based in Kentucky.
- Frankie Dettori, an Italian jockey who has worked in England most of his career, but is now US-based and racing globally.
- Katie Davis, a New York–based jockey and one of the few women in the sport.
- Umberto Rispoli, an Italian jockey based in California.
- Antonio Fresu, an Italian jockey based in California.
- Irad Ortiz Jr., an East Coast–based jockey from Puerto Rico.
- John R. Velazquez, an East Coast–based jockey from Puerto Rico.
- Javier Castellano, a Venezuelan jockey based on the East Coast.
- Flavien Prat, a French jockey based in California who regularly races in New York and Kentucky.
- Florent Geroux, a Kentucky-based French jockey.
- José Ortiz, an East Coast–based jockey from Puerto Rico.
- Luis Saez, an East Coast–based jockey from Panama.
