Behind The Scenes Documentary Society Of The Snow

Society of the Snow will be joining a few elite titles that get a behind-the-scenes documentary added to Netflix.

Updated: The documentary has been confirmed to drop on Netflix globally on January 24th, 2024.

Titled Society of the Snow: Who Were We on the Mountain? or La Sociedad de la Nieve: ¿Quines Fuimos en La Montana? for Spanish speakers.  The new documentary seeks to go behind the scenes of the recent biopic from director J.A. Bayona.

In case you missed it – Society of the Snow is one of the first major movie releases for Netflix in 2024 and a big awards hopeful for the streamer. The biopic tells the story of the Uruguayan 1972 Andes flight disaster with the source material for the movie being adapted from Pablo Vierci’s book. The ambitious project was shot across two continents, with filming locations in Spain, Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina, including the actual crash site in the Andes.

It made a big premiere on Netflix and is likely headed for the most-watched list of all time, given its premiere was second only to Troll with 22.9 million views in its first week with 55.8M global watch hours.

Per the description of the behind-the-scenes documentary directed by Manuel Romo, it’ll feature in-depth looks behind the scenes while filming on location, plus personal interviews with the cast and crew of the movie, plus words from J.A. Bayona himself and real-life survivors of the crash.

The documentary is set to be 36 minutes in length, which compares to the aforementioned companion behind-the-scenes documentaries for other Netflix Originals. Some of Netflix’s other movies and series to get the behind-the-scenes treatment include All Quiet on the Western Front, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Our Planet, The Queen’s Gambit, The Power of the Dog, Unorthodox, and The Witcher.

In case you can’t wait for the documentary to drop, Netflix’s Behind the Streams YouTube channel released a 5-minute and 35-second clip on January 5th:

We don’t yet have a release date for the documentary just yet, but you can set a reminder for it within Netflix right now, which will alert you when it drops. Alternatively, keep an eye on our coming soon section for our monthly previews.
