Ramping up the development of film and TV after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Netflix has announced a new dark comedy limited series called Sirens. The project is dubbed a sexy and darkly funny series led by an all-female cast.

Netflix’s Sirens is being created by Emmy-nominated writer Molly Smith Metzler, who will also be the showrunner, producer, and writer. Her previous Netflix limited series, Maid, earned her an Emmy nomination. She also wrote for Orange is the New Black, Shameless, and Casuals, as well as the upcoming Netflix production The Thing About Jellyfish starring Millie Bobby Brown

The creator notably signed a multiyear deal with Netflix back in 2022.

Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, and Margot Robbie are producing Netflix’s Sirens for LuckyChap Entertainment. Margot Robbie serves as an executive producer on the series.

What’s the plot of Sirens?

Sirens is described as a female-driven dark comedy and an “incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women, power, and class”. Here’s the logline provided by Netflix:

“Devon thinks her sister Simone has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell. Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention. When Devon tracks her sister down to say WTF, she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be.”

The plot of the series is said to take place over one weekend.

Who is cast in Sirens?

As of March 2024, Netflix hasn’t announced any cast that would be attached to Sirens. As the development ramps up, we expect to know more.

Allison Jones Casting is behind the casting for the new series.

How many episodes will be in Sirens?

Netflix’s Sirens is confirmed to be a limited series, but the number of its episodes isn’t yet known. Smith’s previous Netflix limited series was Maid and it consisted of 10 episodes. It’s possible that Sirens will be similar.

What’s the production status of Sirens?

The development of Netflix’s Sirens seems to be in its early days, and the production has not set filming dates.

According to one source, the project is looking to shoot on the East Coast of the United States at some point in the Summer of 2024. Another source suggests the current filming window will occur between June and September.

What’s the Netflix release date for Sirens?

Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for Sirens, and it’s difficult to make an educated guess regarding the release window based on the filming schedule since there is no schedule to speak of.

Nonetheless, 2025 would be a safe bet if filming starts this year.
