It’s been over 5 years since the last time we saw Alfonso Cuarón in the director’s seat with the Academy Award-winning film Gravity. Roma is the upcoming Netflix Original film written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Involving himself deeply into the work on the film, Cuarón is also credited as a producer, co-editor and photographer of the film. Roma has already received a worthy accolade after winning the Golden Lion award at the 75th Venice film festival. Many critics have come forward to declare the film as the best of 2018.
The story of Roma takes place in the city of Mexico City in the 1970s. Centered around the life of a live-in housekeeper who works for a middle-class Mexican family that lives in the neighborhood of Roma. Cuarón has drawn upon his own experiences of his childhood to the big screen in this heartfelt and emotional rollercoaster of a film.

The Oscar Nominated Netflix Original
There have been a handful of Oscar nominations from the past few years for Netflix Originals. Out of the total 14 nominations, Netflix has won 2 Academy Awards, to which both have been for documentaries. Roma has already been selected as the Mexican entry for an Academy Award in the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category which it is highly likely to win. If the film is to be nominated for any further Academy Awards is unknown as the time of writing.

What are the ratings for Roma?
At the time of writing Roma is doing exceptionally well so far. It currently has a rating of 8.7 on IMDb, 99% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 96% on Metacritic respectively.
The IMDb rating is measured by user rating so upon release, we can expect this rating to change for the better or worse. Many critics are currently raving about the film and already some are describing it as the best film of 2018.

Where is the trailer?
Netflix released the trailer on the 13th of November. The film has been shot purely in black and white.
When is the release date?
Roma will be available to stream to all subscribers from the 14th of December!
Will there be a sequel?
There are no plans for a sequel film as this is a stand alone. The inspiration for the film comes from Alfonso Cuarón as a tribute to the nanny that helped raise him.
