Richard Linklater’s ‘Hit Man’ Will Debut on Netflix in June 2024

Netflix has confirmed the release date for its acquired film Hit Man, which is set to debut in June 2024 after a limited theatrical debut.

Based on an article on a true story as first reported by Texas Monthly, the movie follows Gary Johnson, a strait-laced professor who becomes a fake hitman. He meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities. Inspired by an unbelievable true story.

The movie stars Glen Powell, Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, Molly Bernard, and Evan Holtzman.

Richard Linklater serves as writer and director of the movie, co-writing alongside Glen Powell. This serves as Linklater’s second major movie project for Netflix following Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood.

When will Hit Man be on Netflix?

The movie has already made its debut at multiple film festivals, first appearing in Venice on September 5th, 2023. It was later screened at the Toronto Film Festival for its North American premiere and will also be showcased at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.

Netflix acquired the movie in select territories (more on this in a second) following its September premiere for a reported $20 million.

As revealed in a new teaser trailer for Hit Man, the movie will debut on Netflix on June 7th, 2024. It won’t be a global release, however.

The movie is currently destined to hit Netflix in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Iceland.

The movie will also have a select theatrical release. Based on prior movies at Netflix, this will likely be from May 31st, 2024 onwards.

The movie has a runtime of 113 minutes.
