Rebellion is finally returning to Netflix for its second season in March 2019. The Irish series was a big hit when it first released in 2016 but will the long wait be worth it? Here’s what we know so far about the second season.

If you’ve never heard of Rebellion you’d be forgiven as it slipped onto Netflix quietly when it joined in most regions in June 2016.

The period drama follows events when Ireland was breaking away from the British empire in the early 1900s. The series follows three women with different backgrounds throughout the struggle. As WillowandThatch has said the series was originally “Made to mark the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising”.

The series is only five episodes long and is only internationally distributed by Netflix. The series was aired on RTE which is a terrestrial TV station in the Republic of Ireland.

What is season 2 of Rebellion?

Let’s fast forward three years to today where we’re now about to get season 2 of the show. Although Netflix will be dubbing the upcoming episodes as season 2, it’s not technically the case. RTE renewed the series but renamed this series to be called “Resistance”.

The series is set slightly after the events of season 1 and although it carries a new name, many of the same elements cross over. That includes the cast which includes some recognizable faces from the first season as well as new faces too. The new series dramatizes the true events of the late 1920s in Ireland after the split.

The returning cast members including Brian Gleeson, Jordanne Jones, Millie Donnelly, and Gavin Drea.

How many episodes will be in Rebellion season 2?

Once again, the series is only a modest five episodes long. The good news is that they’re lengthy episodes clocking in at just under an hour long each.

When will season 2 of Rebellion be on Netflix?

The series is scheduled for a global Netflix release on March 4th, 2019. The only country we’re not sure on whether they’ll be the recipient of season 2 just yet is Ireland.

All five episodes will land at once akin to most other Netflix Original releases.

Any news on a season 3?

Nothing yet. The second season flew under our radar because of the change of name but if a new season is to come, it will be quite a way into the future.
