We’re just weeks away from the second Rebel Moon dropping on Netflix but Zack Snyder has just teased a bunch of new details about the forthcoming extended cut editions of the movie that are coming our way in 2024.
The first movie released on Netflix globally on December 21st, 2023 over the Christmas break and went onto be in the Netflix global top 10s for four weeks before dropping out picking up 165.10 million hours watched globally. Compared with other big-hitting Netflix Original movies, the launch of the film was relatively sluggish and no doubt ultimately didn’t meet Netflix’s lofty goals.
Maybe one of the reasons some people held back from watching the first on Netflix has been the extended-cut releases with Netflix and Zack Snyder cashing in on the entire Snyder-cut phenomenon that occurred with the Justice League movie, although under very exceptional and different circumstances.
The second movie, Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, is set to arrive on Netflix globally on April 19th, 2024. This time, it’s worth noting, the movie will not be getting a special release time but rather landing on Netflix simultaneously like all other Netflix Originals at 8 AM BST or midnight PST.
In a new interview, Zack Snyder said he was primarily focused on finishing the Director’s Cuts right now, saying that they’ll release day and date alongside each other. “We don’t have a date yet,” Snyder said, adding, “but I think it’s going to be, you know, in the summer.”
Talking about the runtime of the movies, Snyder said,
“I think it’s interesting because you’ll get to see, you know, they reach like about an hour longer than the original, other than the PG-13, whatever. So it would be nice to see the six hours together.”
He calls the R-rated director’s cuts a “more immersive experience” adding that the new versions are “very adult” and “super hardcore” because of that age-rating promising lots of violence and sex.
When talking about the PG-13 movies, he said that Netflix was behind the decision, suggesting they wanted them for a “broader audience.” Still, he said he obliged so that he could make the “more boutiquey, impossible movie” that will be released as the extended cut versions.
Snyder was ultimately very praising of Netflix throughout the interview saying “they were really very courageous to take on this concept.”
