Filming Begins On One Piece Season 2 Netflix 3 Cast Members Confirmed To Return

Netflix has officially confirmed filming is underway on the second season of the live-action One Piece. It has also been confirmed that Alvida, Buggy, and Gold Roger will return for the second outing.

Netflix released a new minute-and-a-half video featuring the Straw Hat crew: Iñaki Godoy (Luffy), Emily Rudd (Nami), Mackenyu (Zoro), Jacob Romero (Usopp), and Taz Skyler (Sanji), all traveling and reuniting in South Africa for the season 2 shoot. The video sees all five of them on the ship deck, with Godoy proclaiming, “To the grand line!”

Although this is the first time Netflix publicly acknowledged that filming is underway, die-hard fans noted that production began on June 24th (last Monday). Of course, we’d known for some time that production would get underway sometime in late June 2024, with filming not expected to wrap up until January 2025 at the earliest.

Alongside the announcement that production is underway for the second season, Netflix has also confirmed that Ilia Isorelys, Jeff Ward, and Michael Dorman will return to reprise their roles as Alvida, Buggy, and Gold Roger, respectively. The return of Alvida and Buggy is unsurprising, but the return of Gold Roger may surprise some.

Throughout the One Piece anime/manga, information about the Pirate King, Gold Roger, is revealed in small doses, sometimes taking over a hundred chapters, and dozens of episodes can pass before we learn more about the legendary pirate.

More about Gold Roger will be revealed in Loguetown, and we’ll see further references to his execution and maybe even a particular bar that anime fans will be keeping an open eye out for. At the very least, the return of Michael Dorman as Gold Roger will mean we’ll see further details about his execution and not reuse the same footage from the first season.

The news that production is underway and the return of three cast members is on top of all the casting news from the past week. Eleven new cast members were revealed for the second season, and many more will be announced in due course. As a recap as to who was cast last week:

  • Callum Kerr (Monarch) as Smoker.
  • Julie Rehwald (Fear Street) as Tashigi.
  • Rob Colletti (The Many Saints of Newark) as Walpol.
  • Ty Keogh (24 Hours to Live) as Dalton.
  • David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) as Mr. 3.
  • Jazzara Jaslyn (Warrior) as Miss Valentine.
  • Camrus Johnson (Batwoman) as Mr. 5.
  • Daniel Lasker (Raised by Wolves) as Mr. 9.
  • Clive Russell (Game of Thrones) as Crocus.
  • Werner Coetser (Getroud met Rugby) as Dorry.
  • Brendan Murray (The Boys) as Brogy.

We’ll soon be updating our main One Piece season 2 article with all the latest news from today and keeping it updated in the weeks and months to come.
