Netflix has scored yet another exclusive deal with ABC bringing Designated Survivor exclusively to the Netflix streaming service in some regions. In the deal, the show will drop weekly episodes onto Netflix soon after it airs on ABC in the United States.
The brand new show starring Keifer Sutherland is about the mediocre rise of a low-level cabinet employee who is forced to become the President of the United States after the rest of the administration is killed.
ABC has chosen Netflix for Designated Survivor to release weekly, regions currently include the United Kingdom among others. The deal does exclude both the US and Canada though. The same deal has been done for other ABC shows in the UK such as Once Upon A Time, Pretty Little Liars and Shadowhunters to name a few.
Netflix Release Schedule for Season 1 of Designated Survivor
New episodes of the show air on ABC on Wednesday nights in the United States. You can expect 13 episodes in the first season and each will be available on Netflix the following day. For the UK, you can expect new episodes to drop every Thursday morning at around 8AM.
Season 1, episode 1 was added on September 22nd, 2016 and episode 2 is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on September 29th, 2016. It’ll then follow this format for 13 weeks although it’s not yet been announced whether the series will break over Christmas.
For those in the United States, a similar deal is in place but for streaming rival Hulu instead. That deal will bring weekly episodes to Hulu Plus although given the same deals in place with other ABC shows, we can expect to see season 1 of Designated Survivor to stream on Netflix US in mid-to-late 2017 (we’re predicting September 2017) for the complete first season to stream. For Canada, we also expect you to get the show eventually but no official date has been confirmed as of yet.
