Fans of The Haunting of Hill House and Hush will be ecstatic to learn that Netflix has ordered a brand new horror series from Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy. Titled “Midnight Mass” this will be the second series Netflix has ordered from the duo.
Netflix currently has a multi-year TV deal with Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy and their production company Intrepid Pictures. The deal allows Netflix to order titles that will air exclusively as originals on the streaming service. This deal was signed off the back of the success of The Haunting of Hill House, one of the most popular additions to Netflix in 2018.
Midnight Mass has been ordered for seven episodes and the plot has been described as the following:
After the arrival of a charismatic young priest, a small isolated island community begins to experience miraculous events and frightening omens.
Mike Flanagan will be directing the series and serve as an executive producer alongside Trevor Macy. Naturally, no cast members have been confirmed at this time.
When is Midnight Mass coming to Netflix?
We aren’t expecting to see Midnight Mass arrive on Netflix anytime soon. This is because of Flanagan and Macy will be working on the second season of their anthology series, The Haunting of Bly Manor. At the time of writing principal photography has yet to begin but Haunting of Hill House actress Victoria Pedretti has been confirmed to star in The Haunting of Bly Manor as Dani, a countess that is hired to care of two mysterious children.
Filming for The Haunting of Bly Manor can be expected to begin after the post-production of Doctor Sleep is concluded.
With The Haunting of Bly Manor scheduled to arrive sometime in 2020, Midnight Mass will likely arrive in 2021. Once we have more information we’ll begin our preview for the upcoming horror series.
