Whether you’re the sort of person who embraces Valentines Day or hates it, there is no denying that a lot of people lay importance on the day. The old-fashioned way of doing valentines usually involves some sort of expensive gift or meal in a fancy restaurant, but in the modern year of 2018 a lazy day cuddled up watching some sappy romantic films on Netflix sounds just as appetizing.
With so many things available on Netflix at a moments notice we understand you don’t want to be sat there with your Valentines sifting through Netflix for god knows how long looking for something. That’s why we’ve spent some time picking out five titles that should be perfect for you to enjoy with your better half.
List only specifically applies to the US.
5. Love (2017) – Seasons 1 & 2 – Netflix Original
This recent Netflix Original series titled ‘Love‘ follows an unlikely couple who despite their difference attempt to form a healthy relationship. Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust star in the show and do a great job portraying realistic characters (that can be a little uncommon in romantic titles) that you can learn to relate with. Netflix originally only commissioned two seasons, but after the success of the show, a third has been confirmed to be coming in March 2018. So keep your eye out!
This down to earth show has really appealed to a lot of Netflix viewers over the 2 seasons and is a great choice to binge on this cold February evening.
4. Wedding Crashers (2005)
This 2005 film stars both Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as is one of the more comedic picks on this list. Josh and Jeremy are ‘Wedding Crashers’; they are committed bachelors who sneak into weddings and attempt to pick up women due to the romantic nature of the event. But things take a turn when John meets and inevitably falls for Claire Cleary, the daughter of the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (Christopher Walken). At first glance, this movie might not seem too appealing for valentines, but if you’re looking for a more funny, less ‘hard-core romantic’ film this definitely fills this gap.
3. Michael Bolton’s: Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Speical – Netflix Original
Now, you can’t get much more appropriate for Valentines Day than a Valentine special from Michael Bolton himself. Although this special is from 2017, that can’t stop us from enjoying it. Santa needs 75,000 new babies in order to meet critical Toy Supply, so he looks to the one and only Bolton to get the world in the mood for love. With plenty of celebrity appearances, any fan or Bolton are in for a good hour of entertainment. Even if you aren’t familiar with him, this is one that’s worth checking out.
2. When We First Met (2018) Netflix Original
This brand new Netflix original stars Adam Devine, a guy who after a perfect night getting to know this girl Avery is relegated to the dreaded friend-zone. Despite feeling that they are perfect for each other, Noah (Adam) stays like this for a whole three years until his luck finally changes and he has the opportunity to go back and try again… and again… and again. Since it’s release on the February the 9th this light-hearted film has been met with many positive reviews and if a great film to dig into this Valentines.
1. Love Actually (2003)
We don’t think any romantic list would be complete without Love Actually being somewhere on that list. That’s why we’ve put this 2003 rom-com classic at the top of our picks this year. Despite being often labeled as a Christmas film, this movie can be infinitely re-watched any time of the year, especially on valentines. If you don’t know, the film follows the lives and relationships of eight glaringly different couples attempting to overcome all the problems on the way to true love. The all-star cast includes; Bill Nighy, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Martin Freeman, Liam Neeson, Keira Knightly and many more great talents that make this film as successful as it is.
