Netflix, Underground, and Telemundo Studios are teaming up for a new spin-off to El Marginal, the hit Argentinian series that ran on Televisión Pública Argentina and Netflix for five seasons (37 episodes) between 2016 and 2022.
“But of course, Gladys’ story had to continue,” reads the CheNetflix post released on July 3rd and translated into English, “In the series “En el Barro” a group of women, united by adversity, will face the hostility of the prison regime in “La Quebrada.”
As the post on X suggests, the story continues the story of Gladys Guerra, who was introduced in season 1 of El Marginal and frequently guested throughout the remaining seasons.
Sebastián Ortega, who co-created El Marginal, returns for the spin-off, which started production in July 2024.

Ana Garibaldi, Valentina Zenere, Rita Cortese, Lorena Vega, Marcelo Subiotto, Carolina Ramírez, and Ana Rujas are set to star in the new series, according to todotvnews.com with Juana Molina set to guest star alongside Gerardo Romano, and Cecilia Rosetto.
TTV also provides an expanded synopsis (which we’ve translated and adjusted slightly for clarity):
“While being taken to La Quebrada prison, Gladys Guerra “la Borges” and other inmates with no prison experience are attacked. The vehicle transporting them sinks into the river, and the prisoners, abandoned to their fate, face certain death. However, Gladys frees herself and the others. Minutes later, five survivors reach the shore, covered in mud. United by adversity, this group of women will face the hostility of the prison regime and the challenges posed by the different “tribes” that manage the daily life of the prison. Using the weapons that each one brings from her personal history, and discovering their own strengths and weaknesses, they will learn how to build their place in the universe of La Quebrada. Without seeking it, and without being able to avoid it, they will transform into a new gang: “Las Embarradas.”
