Netflix has the distribution rights to BBC’s 2018 teen thriller The A-List. Here’s what you need to know about the series, when it’s coming to Netflix, and if there’s a future series in the works.
The A-List is a thriller series geared towards late teens (the same audience as Riverdale, etc.). It features Mia, who makes her way to a summer camp, but not all is as it seems. Her time at camp turns into a twisted nightmare. Season 1 debuted on the BBC in the United Kingdom in October 2018 and ran for 13 episodes. The plot bears a striking resemblance to Midsommer, a cult hit movie that was released earlier in 2019.
The series stars Lisa Ambalvanar, Ellie Duckles, Rosie Dwyer, Jacob Dudman, and Cian Barry.
Netflix has acquired international distribution rights to the show, and it is due to come to Netflix in the US on August 30th, 2019. Some of the other regions are also due to get the show. Netflix Canada and Australia will stream the show from August 30th, 2019. Most regions outside the United Kingdom are all due for the show to release.
Will The A-List be on Netflix UK?
Maybe. Netflix UK typically gets BBC shows quite a while after international regions do. If Netflix UK is to carry the show, it won’t be until at least October 2019.
It’s also worth noting the BBC may hold it back for its upcoming Britbox offering that’s due out in Q4 2019.
Will there be more seasons of The A-List?
Almost half a year after its original release, we’re yet to see whether The A List will be coming back for a second season. As with British shows, they can take some time to return with some shows taking ridiculously long hiatuses before returning.
British tabloid The Express said the show’s future will depend on ratings. Hopefully, Netflix will purchase the show for consumption outside of the UK, which will justify a second season. The show tweeted in December 2018, “We will see you again,” so never say never.
That’s all we have for now. Let us know in the comments if you’re excited to watch The A-List.
