Netflix Us Getting More Episodes Of Ncis In June

NCIS was due to be leaving Netflix in its entirety in June 2024, but we’ve learned that Netflix will be keeping the show and gaining some seasons, but with the caveat they’re removing most of the early seasons.

Currently airing its 21st season on CBS, NCIS is a long-running and popular crime procedural series that has been on the air for over twenty years, first airing in September 2003.

Throughout most of the 2010s, Netflix consistently got new seasons shortly before a new season would begin airing. That stopped in 2018 when the show stopped getting updated.

We then reported that the series would remain on Netflix through 2024, with those rights set to expire at the end of June.

Indeed, earlier this year, we reconfirmed that NCIS was headed for the exit and suggested that it was highly unlikely that the missing seasons would be coming to Netflix.

Thankfully, things have changed, and we’ve been proved wrong. Given how popular the series continues to be in the US, it makes sense for Netflix to want to keep NCIS streaming in some capacity. NCIS has been a consistent top performer for Netflix for the past few years. Case in point, just in the most recent Nielsen Top 10s, the show was the fifth most popular for April 8 – 14, 2024. In 2023, the show was the third most popular library title on Netflix.

The NCIS Shuffle Planned for June 30th

On June 30th, 2024, Netflix will remove seasons 1 through 11 of NCIS, but in return, they’ll get seasons 16 and 17 (the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons). This means that they’ll hold seasons 12 to 17 from the end of June in the future. It’s unclear whether more seasons will be licensed in the future.

That means Netflix will still be missing seasons 18 through 21 at the end of June, and the only way to watch those through streaming will be through Paramount+. Likewise, those earlier seasons are only streaming through Paramount+.

The show’s fate on Netflix US comes just months after several regions picked it up for the first time. Regions like Australia, Latin America, India, the Nordics, and a few European countries are now carrying multiple seasons of the show. Arriving on February 15th, 2024, Netflix added seasons 10 through 14 to all these countries.
