Netflix’s new comical murder mystery from India features seven posh suspects and one quirky detective.
Murder Mubarak (also referred to as Congratulations on Murder) is the latest collaboration between Netflix and Maddock Films, the production house behind Netflix’s most popular Indian Original Movie, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga released last March. Other collaborations between the two companies include the films Dasvi and Mimi, which were released exclusively on Netflix but are not branded Netflix Originals.
This is director Homi Adajania’s first project for Netflix. Adajania’s eclectic filmography includes one web series and several features, such as Being Cyrus and Cocktail. Some of his films are in English, and all are produced by Maddock Films. Another commonality among Adajania’s projects? They all star Bollywood veteran Dimple Kapadia, who global viewers will recognize from Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
Murder Mubarak is based on the 2021 novel Club You to Death by Anuja Chauhan, many of whose books have been optioned for movie adaptations. The film version of her debut novel The Zoya Factor is currently streaming on Netflix.
