Netflix has officially confirmed a project that’s been circling for a number of weeks. Kevin Hart is teaming up with director Tim Story for a new comedy from Davis Entertainment that’ll see the comedian play a 40-year-old who accidentally gets invited to a bachelor party for twenty-somethings—and decides to go.
The movie serves as a Ride Along reunion between the actor and director. Story is also known for projects like Barbershop plus the Think Like a Man franchise.
Based on a true story, 72 Hours follows Joe (set to be played by Kevin Hart), a married father of three who accidentally finds himself included in the email chain for a bachelor party being planned by a group of twenty-somethings from across the country. Amused and nostalgic for his own wild days, Joe keeps reading the emails, reminiscing about a time when life was more carefree. Eventually, he comes clean about the mistake—revealing who he is and that he wasn’t actually meant to be on the chain.
To his surprise, the group’s best man, Nick, responds by inviting him to join the trip for real. What Joe doesn’t know is that Nick has ulterior motives: he hopes Joe’s presence—and his settled, domestic life—will convince his best friend Mason to call off the wedding. But Nick’s plan quickly backfires, as Joe’s unexpected arrival profoundly impacts everyone involved, including Nick himself and the rest of the crew—Mason, Silverman, Castillo, and Ava—during 72 chaotic hours of debauchery in Miami.
Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz, of Cobra Kai fame, are two of the script’s writers and producers. Matt Midler, Kevin Burrows, and Nicholas Thomas are also involved in writing duties. Mary Vernieu and Michelle Wade Byrd are the casting directors for the movie.
Production is scheduled to begin this June, and reportedly, locations will include New Jersey and Miami, Florida. Production will wrap sometime in early August, presumably for a 2026 release.
This serves as Kevin Hart’s sixth major feature film for Netflix, following True Story, The Man From Toronto, Fatherhood, Me Time, and most recently, Lift. The comic has also appeared in a number of stand-up specials exclusively for Netflix too.
The film is being produced in partnership with Sony Pictures, who work with Netflix in both providing their theatrical slate to Netflix through the first window in the US and other regions, in addition to developing direct-to-streaming movies to Netflix under a first look deal. Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat, Davis Entertainment, Counterbalance Entertainment, and Will Packer are producing.
