“Dee Dee wanted her daughter to be sick, Gypsy wanted her mom to be murdered.” The Act has arguably become one of the most popular shows of 2019 already. With its chilling premise and real-life story, it’s not hard to see how audiences have been captivated by the thought-provoking tale. But most importantly is The Act available to stream on Netflix? Let’s find out!
The Act is an American true-crime drama series created by Nick Antosca and Michelle Dean. The series is based on the true-life murder of Dee Dee Blanchard by her daughter Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Dee Dee’s murder and the circumstances surrounding her death had lead to Michelle Dean writing a feature-length article for BuzzFeed, detailing the events that led to Dee Dee’s death. The article went viral and the story of Gypsy Rose gobsmacked readers everywhere. Soon after a series was ordered and production of The Act was in development. Dean was hired as showrunner for the series and also served as an executive producer.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard has a toxic relationship with her overbearing mother Dee Dee Blanchard. In her attempt to find independence, Gypsy discovers her mother’s darkest secret, setting in motion the chain of events that ultimately lead to her mother’s murder.
Why The Act isn’t available on Netflix US?
For anyone that has viewed the trailer above will know that The Act is exclusive to Hulu only in the US. With The Act being a Hulu Original the likelihood of The Act ever arriving on Netflix is minuscule. Anyone interested in subscribing to Hulu will be happy to hear that all 8 episodes are available to stream right now.
What about other regions?
It’s more than likely that The Act will arrive on domestic television in regions outside of the United States because at the time of writing The Act is only available to stream in the US.
In the United Kingdom, we speculate that The Act will come to Sky TV. If the series airs on television it would be available on Sky Atlantic but it’s more than likely The Act would be available to stream through there streaming services Now TV and Sky Go.
For Australian viewers, Universal TV and thus Foxtel would be the streaming service home for The Act.
Numerous media sources are reporting that Hulu will be coming to Canada eventually thanks to the Disney/Fox merger. A date is yet to be confirmed but late 2019 or early 2020 has been speculated therefore The Act will likely not be available in Canada until Hulu is available in the country.
