This will be Netflix’s second live-action adaptation of an Anime series, the first being Death Note earlier this year. To say the least, Death Note got mixed reviews after it’s release, but this new project is looking more promising. Below you will find all you need to get up to speed with the title, and when it will be coming to Netflix.
The Origins
Also known as Boku dake ha Inai Machi (The Town Without Me), ‘Erased’ is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Kei Sanbe, who took the Young Ace magazine by storm between 2012 and 2016.
The thriller was quickly adapted into an anime by A-1 Pictures and was broadcasted on Fuji TV between January and March of 2016. A Japanise live-action film and spin-off manga were even produced during this time, proving that Erased was quite successful in the Japanese market. That’s why Netflix was attracted to the series and announced in March of 2017 it was producing a live-action adaptation of their own.
The Plot
Of course, we’re not 100% sure which direction Netflix will take the film. But we don’t imagine it will vary too drastically from the original manga’s plot. Satoru Funjinuma is a 29-year old artist who somehow possesses an incredible gift; the ability to travel back in time. After his mother is killed by a serial killer, Satoru is propelled 18 years into the past, just in time to stop the kidnapping and murders of a number of his classmates, which has haunted him for years. Yūki Furukawa plays the lead role with Reo Uchikawa portraying his younger self. Yūki has starred in numerous other Japanise TV shows and movies.
