Another classic is coming back to Netflix. Having been away from Netflix for seven years, the streaming service in the US will be getting all 208 episodes of the classic sitcom starring Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, and Neil Patrick Harris.

Despite airing on CBS, the show is distributed by 20th Century Fox Television, which Disney acquired in 2019 when it bought the majority of Fox’s assets.

As you may have heard, Disney developed a spin-off to the series called How I Met Your Father, which ran for two seasons before being unceremoniously canceled last September. Both seasons are available on Disney+ globally or on Hulu in the US and are not part of this deal.

How I Met Your Mother will be back on Netflix US after seven years

That’s right, Netflix did stream How I Met Your Mother throughout much of the 2010s, although all nine seasons eventually were removed in November 2017.

When will How I Met Your Mother be back on Netflix? All nine seasons and 208 episodes will be back streaming from June 3rd, 2024.

Why is How I Met Your Mother returning to Netflix? The news came a few months back when it was confirmed that Disney would be licensing over a dozen shows from their various subsidiaries to Netflix throughout 2024 and 2025. Among the other shows set to return includes Prison Break and Lost but we’ll also see brand new shows come to the service that haven’t before.

Adding How I Met Your Mother on Netflix will not impact the titles availability on Hulu where it streams in full. The series will only be available on Netflix for 18 months before leaving. That means the show will expire on December 3rd, 2025, at the earliest.

Will How I Met Your Mother be on Netflix internationally?

If you’re outside the United States, the show’s addition doesn’t currently apply to you. These Disney-owned shows were only acquired for the US at the moment, although given that Netflix is upping its licensing game in all corners of the world, we can’t rule out it ever coming to the streamer.

Of course, most international territories did stream How I Met Your Mother, but as we covered two years ago, all lost the show in full in January 2022.

The good news is that a streaming option is available with Disney+ currently the streaming home of all nine seasons.
