In the final month of 2018, Netflix released 4 brand new anime titles one of which was Hi Score Girl. Already fans have been asking us if we can expect a second season. So let’s find out if Hi Score Girl will be returning for another season.
Hi Score Girl is a Japanese anime based on the manga of the same name by author Rensuke Oshikiri. The studio responsible for the production of the anime is J.C. Staff, who are well known for their work on other titles such as Food Wars, Golden Time and the second season of One Punch-Man.
Yaguchi isn’t handsome, he isn’t smart and he doesn’t have much to brag about except his ability to play arcade games. But when his position as the best in the arcade is challenged by fellow student Ono, Yaguchi is soon put in his place. Soon the pair becomes close rivals and constantly challenge each others ability across all manner of arcade gaming.

Tagged with the title of Original doesn’t always mean that Netflix is the producer or co-producer of a title. As is the case with Hi Score Girl, Netflix has the international distribution rights to the anime but studio J.C. Staff is responsible for its production. The first season ended at what would be the 27th chapter out of the total 51 chapters from the manga. There’s still plenty of source material to warrant a second season and we can confirm that 3 OVA’s are in production. The OVA’s are likely to arrive on Netflix but we can’t confirm when.

What to expect from season 2 of Hi Score Girl?
Hidaka confessed her feelings to a bewildered Yaguchi at the end of the first season. Knowing he has feelings for Ono over Hidaka, she has made her intentions known that she won’t give up so easily. Asking for a rematch for an arcade game, Hidaka has set the condition that if she wins than Yaguchi must be her boyfriend. The love triangle is heating up and we can expect further conflict to be settled through more rematches and fun arcade games!

When can we expect a release date for season 2 of Hi Score Girl?
If you have read any of the previous anime articles you’ll know we’ve spoken to some detail how long an anime series takes to produce. The OVAs are currently in production so the 2nd won’t arrive for some time. It could take of least half a year for J.C. Staff to produce the anime. Once produced the season will air on Japanese networks before arriving on Netflix. We speculate it won’t be until late 2019 or early 2020 before Hi Score Girl returns.
