The first South Korean Original on Netflix, Kingdom has been overwhelmingly successful since the first season landed in January 2019. Since the release, we’ve tried our best to find all the relevant information for the upcoming second season, which releases in March 2020.

Has Netflix renewed Kingdom for season 3?

Netflix has yet to confirm that a third season will be happening, but thanks to some Korean news sites, we’re seeing that a third season may, in fact, be on the way.

It all started with the news that South Korean actress Jun Ji Hyun had been cast in the second season of Kingdom:

From the sources that broke the news, the agency that represents Jun Ji Hyun, Culture Depot, had the following to say about her being cast in the Kingdom:

It is true that Jun Ji Hyun took part in filming for ‘Kingdom’ season two. However, we cannot mention anything about the drama itself. We ask for your understanding.

When asked about reports of a third season the agency had the following to say:

The production has not been confirmed, but if it is confirmed and we are given an offer, we will positively review it.

So while her agency has kept tight-lipped on a possible third season, another news source is stating otherwise.

All K Pop has reported in their article about Jun Ji Hyun’s casting as confirmed for a third season.

The news source claims that Netflix worked incredibly hard to keep the casting of Jun Ji Hyun a “secret”. While the true nature of her role has yet to be revealed, All K Pop states that her character will play a pivotal role towards the end of season 2 and will become an important lead going into season 3.

As we tried to spot the actress throughout episodes of season 2, it wasn’t until the dying moments of the second season her role was revealed.

We can assume she’ll be a series regular in season 3, and likely the main antagonist in the fight against the undead.
