Blood Coast Renewed For Season At Netflix

Blood Coast (also known as Pax Massilia) is eying a season 2 renewal at Netflix but hasn’t been officially confirmed despite recent reports.

The action thriller series from Olivier Marchal follows policemen attempting to stop a dangerous criminal from committing a bloodbath in Marseille. All six episodes dropped on Netflix globally on December 6th, 2023.

Following its release on Netflix, Blood Coast featured in the global TV (Non-English) top 10s for a total of three weeks between December 3rd and December 24th, picking up 59.10 million hours watched globally, which equates to 11.30 million completed viewing equivalents (or views as Netflix dubs it).

Data from FlixPatrol suggests the show had a strong performance in its home country of France, featuring in the daily top 10s for 43 days before falling out. We typically find that an international show to get renewed has to feature in the top 10s for at least 30 days. The show actually featured in at least 88 countries’ top 10s in total, with other strong-performing countries, including Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Hungary, Morocco, New Caledonia, Romania, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

Indeed, there’s much more to be told when it comes to the future Blood Coast. As ReadySteadyCut covered, there’s some lingering questions and cliffhangers as we head into any potential second season.

Allocine (a respected French entertainment website) reported last week that the show has been renewed based on comments from Olivier Marchal. Per their report (translated into English):

“In the C media show on Sunday March 3, 2024 on France 5, Olivier Marchal announced that the series would indeed return for a second year of adventures! The impressive number of views recorded by Netflix across the globe probably encouraged the platform to renew the series…”

We contacted Netflix France and received a response stating that the season 2 renewal has not yet been confirmed on their end. They told us that Marchal is currently engaged in another project, and while he did speak about season 2 possibilities, nothing is currently set in stone just yet. The project that Marchal is currently working on is Bastion 36, which is currently in production at Guamont.

Netflix France has lots of other content lined up for 2024 and beyond. The only other renewed show currently is Represent, which will return for a season 2 in 2024. Lupin is currently awaiting a season 4 renewal but is very much expected to return. We’ve got a preview of some of the other French titles coming up throughout the rest of 2024 here. Netflix France also manages (a very useful!) series calendar on the Netflix About Blog.

In conclusion, then, it looks like we’re going to get a second season of Blood Coast, but just waiting for the trigger to be pulled. We’ll have more to come on this as and when we get it.
