What’s on Netflix has learned that Haolu Wang is on board to direct the third episode of the highly anticipated upcoming seventh season of the award-winning anthology series Black Mirror. We’ve also got some minor plot details about what we can expect.
The plot of the third episode is a little vague, but we’re told that it’ll focus on Brandon and a love interest named Claire. The story will take place over 80 years, with segments in the present day all the way back to the 1940s. Black Mirror previously had a more love-focused episode in season 4 with Hang the DJ.
Charlie Brooker, the co-creator and executive producer of the long-running anthology series, is set to write the episode.
Production on this third episode is currently filming in London, with a scheduled wrap planned for sometime in June 2024.
Making her Black Mirror debut will be director Haolu Wang, who is coming off the back of Bodies, in which she directs episodes 5 through 8. That limited series is regarded as one of the best Netflix series ever produced, with Stephen Graham, Shira Haas, and Kyle Soller starring.
Elsewhere, Wang directors the 2019 short The Pregnant Ground and Legend of the Sea Devils in 2022 for the long-running British series Doctor Who.
She joins the other two known directors for season 7 of Black Mirror: Toby Haynes (set to direct episode 1 and the USS Callister episode) and David Slade, who will direct episode 2. Episodes 1 and 2 are thought to have wrapped production already.
In case you missed it, at the Next on Netflix UK event, Netflix confirmed that season 7 will debut on Netflix in 2025. They also confirmed our earlier reporting that we’re getting a follow-up to USS Callister, which will be released alongside season 7.
