When is Gyeongseong Creature season 2 coming to Netflix?

With the official teaser trailer released, we have confirmation that Gyeongseong Creature is coming to Netflix on September 27th, 2024.

What to expect from Gyeongseong Creature season 2

A huge change is in store for the second season of Gyeongseong Creature, as the series will now take place in modern-day Seoul. Seventy-eight years after the events of season 1. It’s unclear if Ho Jae (played by Park Seo Joon) is a descendant of Jang Tae Sang, a reincarnation, or if Jang Tae Sang is taking on a new identity thanks to the theory that the Najin has dramatically slowed down his ability to age.

Per Netflix, here’s a breakdown of the new season:

“This season uncovers the never-ending ties of fate — both good and bad — that weaves through time. Ho-jae, a man deceptively similar to Tae-sang, and Chae-ok, a survivor of the Gyeongseong spring, navigate these complex relationships in the modern era.

Chae-ok recalling her past after drinking the Najin. She wakes in modern-day Seoul, facing Ho-jae, who looks exactly like Tae-sang. Meanwhile, Kuroko Leader continues with questionable experiments, suggesting that past horrors may recur. The preview hints at explosive action and a desperate battle that transcends time periods, raising the question: How will the entwined relationships, fates, and karma from Gyeongseong come to a head in Seoul

Speaking previously to Netflix, Director Chung Dong-yoon said, “Season 2 presents a story with a completely different charm. The change in space and time period will provide a clear distinction, offering an expanded universe feel.”

Netflix Korea shared some first-look images for the second season of Gyeongseong Creature in January 2024, confirming that Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee will reunite. Netflix Korea’s tweet, when translated into English, states, “After 78 years, let us meet again.”

Who are the cast members of Gyeongseong Creature season 2?

Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee will be returning. However, thanks to the introduction of the modern-day setting, it’s currently unclear if they are reprising their roles as Jang Tae Sang and Yoon Chae Ok or if they are playing brand new roles. The idea that the pair are playing descendants or the reincarnations of Jang Tae Sang and Yoon Chae Ok has been suggested.

Other cast members have been listed and are likely to be playing new roles themselves in the upcoming season;

  • Kim Su Hyun
  • Kim Hae Sook
  • Jo Han Chul
  • Wi Ha Joon

Per Netflix, there are some new faces appearing in season 2:

“New characters Kuroko Leader (Lee Mu-saeng) and Seung-jo (Bae Hyeon-seong) are introduced, adding to the hype of the expanded storyline in Season 2. Kuroko Leader, who commands the Kurokos, an elite group of operatives following secretive orders, crafts a sinister plan in the labs of Jeonseung Biotech. Seung-jo pursues Ho-jae and Chae-ok, heightening the suspense and showcasing intense action in the unfolding mysterious events.”
