It’s a long time coming but Green Eggs and Ham will be arriving on Netflix in 2019. Almost four years on from the announcement we’ve learned plenty about the upcoming animated series. Green Eggs and Ham is an upcoming animated Netflix Original series based on the 1960 book of the same name by author Dr. Seuss.
The series has been in production since 2015 and has been cited to be one of the most expensive animated shows ever made. Each episode will cost roughly five to six million dollars.
What is the plot of Green Eggs and Ham?
The synopsis for Green Eggs and Ham is the following:
“Guy-Am-I, an inventor and his friend Sam-I-Am go on a cross-country trip that would test the limits of their friendship. As they learn to try new things, they find out what adventure brings.”
Speaking recently to Deadline, the showrunner, Jared Stern talked a little more about what we can expect from season 1 of Green Eggs and Ham. Specifically that: “Although the story is about eating green eggs and ham, it’s about learning to try new things, hope and friendship.”
We also now know that the animation style will be in a 2D format, a rarity in children’s animated titles nowadays.

The series is partly produced by Ellen DeGeneres who is known for her stand-up and talk show.
Jared Stern is one of the other producers on the show who has worked on a myriad of animated titles in the past including Storks, The Lego Batman Movie, Wreck-It Ralph and Smallfoot. Beyond animation, he’s had a hand in titles such as The Internship, The Watch, and Mr. Poppers Penguins.
Where is the production of Green Eggs and Ham up to?
Considering the series was ordered in 2015, it’s been a long time coming for Green Eggs and Ham.
The timeline of events for Green Eggs and Ham is the following:
- The show was first announced in April 2015
- Production began on April 10th, 2018
- The cast was reveleaded on February 19th, 2019
As you can see above, filming for the series was as recent as February 2019. The “filming” that took place would have been for the voice actors to record their lines. We could assume the remaining touches for the series are being completed as you read this.

How many episodes will the first season debut?
Green Eggs and Ham will be arriving with 13 episodes, with runtimes roughly being slightly less than 30 minutes apiece. That means for season 1, there’ll be roughly six to seven hours of content arriving.
Has Netflix released a trailer?
An official trailer will drop in the coming weeks but for now, here’s a delightful little read of the famous children’s book by some of the cast.

Will there be a season 2 of Green Eggs and Ham?
Although the series already had to stretch to get a full series out of a 50-word story but the showrunner has stated that the show has been created with the intention of continuing saying: “Green Eggs and Ham series was definitely created so that they can continue beyond one season, which took four years. ”
One other story we’d like to mention is how a meme landed someone an internship at the animation studio behind Green Eggs and Ham. Elijah Rutland was boosted to fame over a meme earlier in 2019 and announced in June he’d be working on the series.

Are any more of Dr. Seus’ work being adapted by Netflix?
At the time of writing, there are currently no plans for Netflix to adapt any further content from Dr. Seus’ work.
If anyone is disappointed by this, there is plenty to look forward to elsewhere. Netflix is planning to adapt titles from Roald Dahl’s collection of works. Such titles that will be adapted are:
