Netflix will be releasing its first collaboration between itself and Activision in the form of Skylanders Academy at the end of this month. The new series that’s based on the characters in the long-running game series will be debuting with 13 new episodes and will likely kickstart yet another Netflix Original kids show that will be getting new seasons annually for many years to come.
Today, we’re going to be having a look at the upcoming Netflix Original children’s series and dish out all the information we know about the show so far.
Timeline of Skylanders Academy
Produced by one of the top producers of Futurama, Eric Rogers, the series was first announced in June 2016 where Netflix ordered two seasons of the show from Activision’s brand new in-house animation team. Back in November 2015, Activision created a new studio that instead of focussing primarily on video games like the rest of its business, it will instead focus on creating entertainment. Back then, they said they were going to work on properties such as Skylanders and Call of Duty. Fast forward, we’ve now got an official release date for the first season.
What is Skylanders Academy about?
The series will pick up from the game series and follow the Skylanders and their recruitment of brand new Skylanders. Spyro has already been confirmed to star in the show and is voiced by Justin Long. Crash Bandicoot, who is also featured in the games, has yet to be confirmed to be in the show but honestly we can’t imagine a scenario where one of the most valuable assets of the game is left out of the TV show.
Cast of Skylanders Academy
As the show is an animation, it’s picked up top voice over talent with people from all walks of the entertainment industry.
- Spyro – Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers, Dodgeball, Alpha and Omega)
- Stealth Elf – Ashly Tisdale (Phineas and Ferb and High School Musical)
- Eruptor – Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Community)

Season 2 of Skylanders Announced
We may be jumping the gun here a little after all; the first season hasn’t even released yet, but when Netflix first ordered the show, it did so for two seasons of Skylander meaning that even if the show is a flop, it’s going to be coming back for at least one year. Guessing an exact timeline and children’s show often don’t stick to an annualised format. Instead, we think it’ll just be coming out at some point in 2017.
