El Chapo season 3 is now available on Netflix and if you’re a bit like Univision and going through all the episodes too quickly, then you’ll be wondering if and when El Chapo will be returning for a fourth season. Here’s what we know about season 4 of El Chapo.
In case you didn’t know, El Chapo focuses on the life of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, a notorious drug lord who was active during the 1980’s.
New seasons of the crime drama series have been released in quick succession. Season 1 dropped on Netflix in June 2017 before season 2 dropping just before the year ended on December 15th. Season 3 came to Netflix recently on July 27th.
Why won’t there be a season 4 of El Chapo?
Unfortunately, a renewal won’t be coming. As you know, in season 3 El Chapo was at the very height of his reign of terror. The end of season 3 cumulated in El Chapo finally getting justice after Don Sol suspected El Chapo had hidden with Marcelo and sent the army to find him.
Speaking to Forbes, Silvana Aguirre said “This season sees the culmination of the journey the characters of El Chapo and Don Sol started in season one,”.
That means the story here has wrapped. We’ll be keeping a close eye on those involved with the project as we hope to watch more their content in the future.
What to watch on Netflix next
It should really go without saying at this point that Netflix does have some fantastic alternatives to watch while you’re waiting for a potential fourth season. Narcos is Netflix’s over major drug cartel drama that unlike El Chapo, focuses on multiple drug cartels.
Seasons 1 and 2 feature the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar and seasons since have moved onto other Colombian and Mexican drug gangs. We don’t know if El Chapo will get his own series on the show given he already has his own show here.
If you want to move into the documentary arena with El Chapo, then we’d recommend watching the controversial docuseries The Day I Met El Chapo that released in October 2017.
