The Korean spinoff of the massive now turned Netflix show starring Kiefer Sutherland has now begun streaming on Netflix with its first two episodes now available. Here’s what you should know about the show and when new episodes will release.
Here’s everything you need to know before diving into Designated Survivor: 60 Days:
What’s the show about?
If you’re familiar with the ABC turned Netflix show (which is waiting for a season 4 renewal), you’ll already understand the plot of 60 days. The series follows Park Mu-jin (played by Ji Jin-hee) who finds himself in a similar position to Tom Kirkman in that he becomes the leader of South Korea after an explosion his the capital city.
The show is shot in a slightly different format with each episode representing a new day with episodes 1 & 2 being on day sixty, episode 3 on Day 59 and so on.
The series draws more comparisons with the American cousin including the relatively mundane role the designated survivor previously played. In this instance, the main role used to be the minister of the environment.
Why did Netflix make Designated Survivor: 60 Days?
Designated Survivor: 60 Days is not a full Netflix Original. The studio behind it is Studio Dragon who produced the show for the Korean network tvN. Netflix has simply purchased the international streaming rights for the show.
It’s not the first show we’ve seen Netflix adapt for other audiences either. Most notably, some of Netflix’s reality shows like Nailed It and the upcoming series ‘The Circle’ are all getting regional adaptations.
Does Designated Survivor: 60 Days have an English dub?
Unlike some imported shows from abroad, this title doesn’t have an English dub. Only the original Korean language is available but of course, features subtitles.
Subtitles for the show include support for:
- English
- Korean
- Simplified Chinese
- Traditional Chinese
