Netflix Germany’s crime drama series Crooks has been confirmed to be coming back for a second season. First debuting on April 4th, 2024, with eight episodes, the well-reviewed series followed rival gangs going toe-to-toe to gain possession of a priceless coin.

The show’s renewal was confirmed on X/Twitter with an accompanying video (we’ve embedded below) confirming the show’s return, although no release window was provided.

How well did Crooks perform? Pretty well in both Germany and abroad, as outlined by the official Netflix top 10s and data from FlixPatrol. We’ve often noted that renewals for local shows like this usually have to spend a month in their home top 10s to get a renewal, and if they can break out into other countries, then even better. That was certainly the case here; deciding to renew Crooks was an easy one.

What can we expect from season 2 of Crooks?

In a press release to German news outlets, co-creator of the series Marvin Kren teased what was to come (translated from German to English):

In season 2, the hunt for the coin will send our two heroes on a wild journey. I can’t give too much away, but if we were to compare the second season to a Viennese dish, it would probably be a very, very spicy one. So a Käsekrainer (sausage with cheese) and in this case with a good amount of chopped fiery red and green chili peppers… and some high-proof liquor to wash it down. You won’t find it in this form in regular sausage shops, but we do as a series. We will once again chase Charly and Joseph on the wildest, most insane, most exciting, most touching and at the same time most authentic gangster adventure trip across the world.”

The series isn’t the only German-language series returning for more episodes. How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast) was finally confirmed to be returning for a fourth season recently, which is due out sometime in 2024. Kleo and The Empress are also returning for their second seasons this year, with the former releasing on July 25th, 2024, and the latter scheduled for later.

In March, Netflix previewed its other German titles coming soon, with Cassandra, Exterritorial, and Brick among the highlights we’re most anticipating.
